The last name Petranovich is rare.
There are only about 3000 people with the name in Croatia and only a couple hundred in the United States.
Looking for "PETRANOVICH "in history and past is extremely hard. There is study done at Berkeley with diverse surnames from church records. Petranovich is in the study.
This search has seamly had me running around in circles. There is no family crest or central point for Petranovich's searching for ancestors. So I decided to create this blog as a central point so that any Petranovich or person with that as a maiden name or even persons who are looking for ancestors with the name.
I have a group on face-book with others who are interested in records and the family tree as well as finding our truth so to speak. But, My main goal is to have all the branches of the Family set in record saved for future generations.

The greatest part of searching for the elusive PETRANOVICH'S is it is so rare when I first goggled it the only thing that came up is people, Lawyers and Writers successful members of the tree.
There is no record of where it comes from what it means or anything like that.

PETRANOVICH originated in Croatia, spelling is PETRANOVIC no H is used.
The surname was first found in the 1600's. That is pretty must agreed upon by the web sites I have found on the web.
I believe Petra was the original spelling, "Petranovich" is often mixed up with Petrinovic the only change is an A for an I. There are different members of this family who immigrated to America as well so in looking at many different church records and looking at the berkeley study have formed this theory.
"OVICH" means son of according to some sources. If you know any more let me know.
PETRA means Peter which means Rock again if you want to add feel free..........
